Summary of AR 12192 observations#

This page summarizes EIS observations of AR 12192, which had a huge sunspot and produced a number of big flares.

18 October#

15:26-17:42, qub_hi-cad_flare_v2#

42 rasters. There's a C4 flare at around 16:02, then a group of 3 C-flares together between 17:04 and 17:42. Raster 35 (17:22) shows a nice example of a completely blue-shifted Fe XXIV profile. Also seems to be a nice loop-top brightening in Ca XVII in this raster. All the flares are compact and nicely centered in the rasters.

19 October#

15:03-17:34, qub_hi-cad_flare_v2#

42 rasters. A C5 flare peaks at 15:58 UT. The action occurs in the bottom-left corner of the rasters, where footpoints are seen. Raster 14 (15:49) shows nice blueshifts in Fe XXIV. There's also a very compact C2 flare at 17:05 that produces Fe XXIV.

20 October#

09:52-14:09, HH_flare_raster_v6#

Observes a number of small flares including a C4 at 11:27. Fe XXIV present including a number of transient loops. Doesn't seem to be any Fe XXIV blueshifts in this data-set, though.

23:03-?, HH_flare_raster_v6#

Catches decay phase of M-flare (peaks 22:55). See long Fe XXIV loops crossing raster.

21 October#

11:39-17:52, HH_flare_raster_v6#

Complex GOES plot during this period. Two impulsive flares at 12:30 (C6) and 13:40 (M2), with a broad feature peaking at 15:00 (C9).

18:49-05:13, HH_flare_raster_v6#

Should have caught M9 flare at 01:16 UT. Shows a skinny loop(s) that crosses the raster and can be seen cooling through the different emission lines. Fe XIV should give a good density estimate.

22 October#

07:29-17:53, HH_flare_raster_v6#

Caught X2 flare at 14:02 UT. Good data-set, with strong blue-shifts in Fe XXIV during impulsive phase.

23 October#

20:00-20:54, HPW002_QS_SAS_060m#

Small-scale flaring.

21:30-22:24, HPW002_QS_SAS_060m#

Small-scale flaring.

23:00-23:54, HPW002_QS_SAS_060m#

Small-scale flaring.

24 October#

00:40-06:00, PRY_flare_2#

Small-scale flaring.

07:07-09:45, PRY_flare_2#

M4 flare peaked at 07:37 UT, but data are no good. Don't see any footpoint emission, and only see fairly weak Fe XXIV loop crossing raster. Ca XV lines are too weak to use. Note that study had error, and windows aren't large enough for Fe XXIII and XXIV.

10:13-12:02, HPW002_QS_SAS_060m#

Small-scale flaring.

12:05-15:11, HH_flare_raster_v6#

May have caught beginning of C6 event (around 15:00).

15:46-16:47, HH_flare_raster_v6#

17:23-17:57, HH_flare_raster_v6#

19:00-20:01, HH_flare_raster_v6#

20:37-21:38, HH_flare_raster_v6#

This caught rise phase of X5 flare, but peak at 21:40 is just missed.

22:13-23:18, HH_flare_raster_v6#

23:41-00:46, HH_flare_raster_v6#

25 October#

10:33-17:28, HH_flare_raster_v6#

Should have caught X1 flare (peak: 17:08). Note this is a double-peaked flare, and 2nd peak is missed.

18:08-22:08, Flare266_Hunter02#

No flare response.

22:31-05:37, HH_flare_raster_v6#

26 October#

06:11-10:11, Flare266_Hunter02#

No flare response.

10:14-17:39, HH_flare_raster_v6#

Should have caught X3 flare (peak: 10:56).

17:56-21:55, Flare266_Hunter02#

21:58-05:58, HH_flare_raster_v6#

Should have caught M8 flare (peak: 00:34).

27 October#

06:13-10:13, Flare266_Hunter02#

No flare response.

10:15-17:59, HH_flare_raster_v6#

Should have observed X3 flare (peak around 14:45).

18:13-22:13, Flare266_Hunter02#

No flare response.

22:13-02:13, Flare266_Hunter02#

Flare response began at 22:19 (6 rasters).

28 October#

The XRT flag was being used with Flare266_Hunter02 on 28-29 October. Several of the studies triggered almost immediately (in fact it seems the hunter study didn't even run).

02:14-06:14, Flare266_Hunter02#

Flare response began at 02:54 (6 rasters).

06:31-08:14, HH_flare_raster_v6#

10:43-14:42, Flare266_Hunter02#

Flare response at 10:43 (6 rasters). The trigger doesn't seem to have worked, but the raster did catch a C7 flare at 11:05. Pointing not ideal, though,

14:45-17:45, Flare266_Hunter02#

Flare response at 14:45 (6 rasters). Caught late decay phase of M2 flare (peak 14:05). Flare loop seems to be visible at bottom of raster in Ca XVII. Pointing is bad.

18:17-22:17, Flare266_Hunter02#

Flare response at 18:17 (6 rasters). There is no significant flare that could have caused this trigger. Pointing is very similar to previous two response studies.

22:19-02:19, Flare266_Hunter02#

Flare response at 22:54 (6 rasters). Again, no significant flare had occurred. Pointing is same as previous studies.

29 October#

02:21-04:21, Flare266_Hunter02#

Flare response at 03:30 (6 rasters). This seems to have worked well. Response started during rise of C9 flare. Rise is slow with three peaks. However, pointing is still bad (looks to be same as previous response studies).

04:38-08:38, Flare266_Hunter02#

Flare response at 04:38 (6 rasters).

08:40-12:40, Flare266_Hunter02#

Flare response at 08:40 (6 rasters).

12:42-17:42, Flare266_Hunter02#

No flare response.

17:44-22:43, Flare266_Hunter02#

No flare response.
