EIS Slits and Slots
You have a choice of 4 slits and slots for your studies.
The sizes of these are:
1 arcsec
2 arsecs
40 arcsec slot (chosen so that strong, clean lines can be observed)
266 arcsec slot (providing data similar to a slitless spectroheliogram)
They are placed in the mechanism in an order most convenient for changing the slot size
in response to a flare trigger.
The order is:
pos 0 = 1 arcsec
pos 1 = 266 arcsecs
pos 2 = 2 arcsecs
pos 3 = 40 arcsecs
So, for example, you could carry out a sit and stare study on an active region using the
40 arcsecs slot,and if a flare trigger is flagged you could switch to the 1 arcsec slit and
carry out fast sit and stare studies.
